digital media is based on the binary numeral sequence and the two digits "1" and "0" are used to code all digital data.

bit - A bit is the amount of information which can be stored by a digital device.
byte - is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunitcations

A sampling rate defines the number of samples per second taken from a continuous signal to make a descrete signal.

Colour depth or bit is a graph term describing the number of bits used to show the colour of a pixel on a bitmapped image or video frame buffer.

Sampling rate affects video and not still media because a still image isn't still over period of time and so samples don't need to be taken every second as a video.
